 Welcome to Science Class

on the Blue Team!

We will strive to use the attributes of scientists, curiosity, open-mindedness, skepticism, and honesty

throughout our learning adventure together.

My name is Mrs. Hinlicky.  We will study all the disciplines in science this year including physical, life, earth, and space sciences.  You will learn a lot about how the natural world works and behaves, study matter you can see and not see, and explore how energy affects matter.
You will use your Chromebook each day to access google classroom, the online textbook, Gizmos, infinite campus grade book, (portal), etc.  You will not be allowed to use your phone for classwork so be sure you charge your Chromebook every single night so it is ready to go every day.  Make charging your device a part of your nightly prep or schedule so you are ready for school the next day.
Supplies needed Be sure you bring to class each day:
You will be given one textbook this year that will be used all year long, and just like last year, it is yours to write in and keep at the end of the year so I hope you will mark it up!!  Be sure to bring it to class every day.

    • Highlighters (2 or 3 different colors)
    • Sharpened regular pencils (preferred) and erasers and pencil sharpener.  If using mechanical pencils, be sure to have plenty of replacement lead available.
    • 3-hole Pencil bag/pouch
    • Science notebook with sturdy science-only folder OR 3-ring binder with paper and sturdy science-only folder OR multiple subject binder with paper and a sturdy science-only folder
    • Inexpensive earbuds that work with the Chromebook and that can be kept in the pencil bag/pouch so are always available to you for your use and not in your locker
    • Your school-issued Chromebook, charged

If you have a 3- or 5-subject notebook to use for all your classes, that will work as long as you dedicate one section just for science work.  You will be able to use the online textbook digital notebook sometimes for work but not for class note taking so this paper notebook is important.  I do not want you to lose or not have any of your notes so you cannot take science notes in your math, English, social studies or other class sections or notebooks.
Helpful but not required:

  • Tissues
  • Post-it notes and flags
  • Colored pencils (sharpened)
  • Calculator

Extra Credit:
One way to earn extra credit is to bring in something from home to share with your classmates because our class will sometimes need household items to complete some labs.  We will periodically ask for donations of materials and will assign extra credit points for you to use.  Thank you so much for your help!
