Student Tips for the 2022-2023 School Year

Be prepared for class:  Each teacher will explain what is needed for class, but in general, students should always have:

  •  a pencil and eraser
  •  Chromebook

Learn to manage your time: Time management is an important skill to work on while you are in Middle School.  Do not allow yourself to get behind in your classes.  Catching up is much more difficult than keeping up.  Talk to your teachers if you are struggling with time management and they will help you create a plan to succeed.

Take responsibility for your learning:   Successful learning happens when you stop to ask yourself if you are understanding the lesson and when you take action as soon as you need help.  If you don’t understand or your need help, ask your teacher.

Be sure you are collaborating, not just copying:  As people, we learn a lot by talking about what we're learning with other students.  Collaborating with your peers is a great way to learn.   However, only you will know when you are crossing the line between collaborating (working with others to reach an understanding) and copying (writing down someone else's thinking without your own input to the problem).  Copying is not only unethical, it also is a sign that you may need help.

Grading Policy

The middle school grading policy has 70% of your grade based on assessments (assignments that are graded for accuracy) and 30% of your grade is based on assignments that are graded based for full completion.

Parents’ Corner

I hope you will partner with your child's teachers to make this a successful year for your child.  If you believe that I can assist you in anyway please reach out.  You can help by motivating your child to work hard and by helping them create a daily routine that supports their readiness to learn each day.  Your involvement in this area can have a significant impact.  You know better than anyone what inspires your child.  Words of praise, encouragement, and support are very powerful tools.  Perhaps you can help them set some goals and agree on the benefits of accomplishing these goals.  Please let them know that their success in school does matter!
