Mr. Mosetti's English Class

Philosophy:

In order to prepare you for the upcoming school year in my classroom, I would like to illustrate my philosophy that English is life.  Learning is active and productive, not passive and receptive.  A classroom based in that belief may encompass literature from all walks of life and provide a base for its practical application within our students’ lives.  Our class will discover and perfect reading comprehension, drawing conclusions, making inferences, and writing skills that will be transferable in whatever career path students choose, as well as build memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

Google Classroom:

Everyone must join Google Classroom. The Google Classroom join links can be found in the upper left corner of  this website. Please be sure to join the class that you are in based on your school schedule. If you have any questions or issues joining, please email me at the above address.

Google Classroom will house most assignments throughout the school year.

What to Expect:

Students will experience multiple forms of representation as we dive into English class.  Utilizing current events, popular culture, music, film, poetry, and a diverse set of literature our class, will truly be a vessel of lifelong learning.   Exposure to varied authors and forms of expression will springboard each student’s understanding of their own learning styles and develop creativity and establish creditability in his/her own writing.  My classroom goal is to establish an efficient and effective learning community to appropriately address relevant 21st century standards and prepare for NJSLA within our study over the course of the year.  Lessons will hinge upon essential questions and enduring understandings. All writing assignments will be graded using a holistic scoring rubric consistent with the EHT Schools English department and state testing standards. This year's main focus will be ANALYZING texts to form opinions and then find and cite relevant EVIDENCE to support our CLAIMS.

Grading Procedure:

 Tests/Quizzes/Essays/Projects: 70%

Classwork/Homework/Participation: 30%

A classroom set of textbooks will be provided in the classroom. Copies of stories or questions will be provided if the student needs to complete work at home. They will not have to take the textbook home.
